Things to do on a weekend - Kayaking Price Lake

Price LakeThe High Country offers countless opportunities for weekend adventure. Often people drive up from miles away just to partake in something unique to them, but always available here to locals A recent example can be found via the blog, Gypsy Turtles.

A retired couple living the life of nomads, they made a trip to Blowing Rock with a specific mission in mind - enjoying Price Lake in a kayak.

As we paddled around this very smooth, calm lake, it was surprising to see the leaves already changing colors. We’ve been in temps of 90+ most of the summer (including here), so this took us by surprise. I can only imagine how gorgeous it will be in October!

Price Lake is just one of the area destinations for someone looking to paddle about.

Bring your own boat or not, there's world-class paddling in the Boone Area.

Local outfitters offer the entire range of opportunities from individual or family boat rentals (with a return shuttle back to your car), to guided day trips that include lunch. Canoeing or kayaking a classic National Wild and Scenic River like the New River is an exciting adventure that's open to almost anyone, including families. That can also mean tackling a multinight canoe or kayak camping trip with stops at New River State Park. Entry level paddle trips are a great way to relax amid spectacular scenery.

Don't want to pilot a boat or even paddle? Many outfitters that offer river trips also rent tubes and organize tubing trips—one of the classic, low key ways to enjoy summer on a mountain stream.
