Live the Dream #25 - Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention

For 40 years some of the best and most dedicated fiddle players in the region have descended on the High Country to play, practice and learn a few new licks. They gather in Jefferson for the annual Ashe County Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention. The 41st event is this weekend. Most of the music takes place at Ashe Park, where there will be a competition for prize money.

We treasure our musicians and the music they make. Pass the word to other musicians and to your friends & neighbors across the southeast that there's a great little spot in the heart of the Appalachians, near the Blue Ridge Parkway, that is the family-friendliest event you will find this summer.

With over $3,600 in prize money, our focus continues to be musician-centered as we honor the Old Time and Bluegrass music of the mountains and the musicians who make it.

Prize money is awarded not just by age group by type of music. There's categories for bluegrass band, old time band, bass fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo and more. Plus, dancing! Back in 2009 North Carolina Weekend (UNC-TV) did a special on the convention. Just one of the many great outdoor music events in the High Country every year.
