85.8 - Average temperature in Boone from Memorial Day to Friday, the first five days of the unofficial start of summer. The historical average for the highs during that five-day span is 70.4 degrees.
It's been a blistering start to the High Country summer season. There have been five straight days of record highs, topped by temps on May 31. Boone hit 87.6 degree that day, about 17 degrees above the historical average for the day and two above the all-time high set in 1991. The top of Grandfather Mountain also bested its all-time high record by 2, hitting 76 degrees.
Reaching the 80s isn't unheard of in Boone, but rarely do those days roll around so early. The average high for June is 73 degrees, followed by the hottest month of the year, July, with its 76-degree average. Regardless of the heat, there are plenty of way to cool down in the High Country.
