Things to do on a weekend - Mountain ValleyFest

Warm spring weather usually translates to getting the kids out of the house. And there's no better place than the High Country to find them something fun to do in the great outdoors. This weekend it's the Mountain ValleyFest. Held Saturday, it has plenty of activities children love.

Mountain ValleyFestBoasting a full lineup of local musicians, food, arts and craft vendors and numerous children’s activities, the fifth annual Mountain ValleyFest will take place Saturday, May 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Green Valley Park, located several miles past Green Valley School in between Boone and Todd. Admission is free, and parking is $3.

The musical lineup includes performances beginning at 10:30 a.m. by Mike Lowe, a musician and award-winning storyteller; the band Freegrass; trio Folk & Dagger; Diana Wilcox and Sarvis Ridge out of Blowing Rock; Boone-based bluegrass group Upright & Breathin’; and area favorite Melissa Reaves, who will close out the festival with two sets beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Mountain ValleyFest is sponsored by two local nonprofits: Mountain Pathways School, a Montessori school in Boone that was founded in 1987; and Green Valley Park, a multipurpose community park on the banks of the New River.
