Three cheers, er .. make that laps .. to healthy living!
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, along with the University of Wisconsin, recently released its County Health Rankings report for the state of North Carolina. It found residents of the High Country area to be among the healthiest Tar Heels.
One measure - Health Outcomes - ranked all 100 counties by "how healthy a county is. We measure two types of health outcomes: how long people live (mortality) and how healthy people feel while alive (morbidity)." Another was Health Factors, which represented what influences the health of a county.
Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties all ranked in the top half of both lists. Watauga was 4th and 5th, respectively, in Health Outcomes and Health Factors. Ashe was 32nd and 43rd. Avery was 45th on both lists.
The report offers no details or specific credits for the numbers. But there's little doubt Living The Dream, on average, keeps one in great health.
